Welcome

State of Nagaland was formally inaugurated on December 1st, 1963, as the 16th State of the Indian Union. It is bounded by Assam in the West, Myanmar (Burma) on the east, Arunachal Pradesh and part of Assam on the North and Manipur in the South. The State consists of twelve Administrative Districts, inhabited by 16 major tribes along with other sub-tribes.

Nagaland is blessed with salubrious climate throughout the year. However, the adverse impact of urbanization/ industrialization and growth in population has led to the emergence of many disasters in the recent years. Owing to these factors, the geologic and climatic setting of the state has begun to change and its effects are obvious. The state is also facing extreme weather events and this has become a common feature impacting human lives causing huge asset and economic losses.

In order to systematize the effort of disaster risk and disaster management efforts in the state, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority was notified on 21st July, 2008 and established during 2011 by the state under the ambit of National Disaster Management Act 2005 along with the establishment of District Disaster Management Authorities to bring a structured institutional mechanism for the management of disasters in the state.

In order to make Nagaland resilient to disasters especially hydro-meteorological disasters, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority through the Skymet Weather Services Pvt. Ltd. has established a network of Automatic Weather Station to generate vital weather data for taking timely action on disaster response planning and management.
